Dear CPA Australia,
Not a frail qualification: Who says one size fits all?
I’ am writing to dispute the idea of lifting University qualification as a prerequisite to the CPA program. As for the goal of leveling the academic playing field with the elite CAs, I’m not pleased so far. The Chartered Accountants can be heard everywhere. We have far been engulfed in a war with the CAs mainly on quality-based theories. So why do we have to make it worse?
I simply cannot find any advantageous reasons for this change but I can name a few drawbacks this will bring and why obtaining a University degree after that is time well wasted and pointless. A professional qualification is all about rigor, preparedness and maturity of thought that a candidate should have. I do not have to tell you why a University degree will help them achieve this. I’m not talking Ivy League. Having a full systematic three year academic training will facilitate them with theoretical skills and to a certain extent practical skills for the employment race. The skills you possess from a tertiary education are rewarded adequately with a good career and a good professional qualification. It’s the Multiplier effect of higher education in this sense. It’s like a cycle that cannot be easily altered.
The logic of a professional qualification is where you relate what you’ve learnt along with relevant work experience to contribute to the body and to help it keep abreast with the latest developments. How can all this be done with raw levels of development and no practical familiarity? How would members competently come up with more business models/hypothesis and regulations/drawn in to economic affairs without a tertiary education and without work experience? Especially when our profession is under scrutiny all the time. It is as simple as that. This leaves me baffled.
If potential candidates are finding it difficult to gain entry into Universities, perhaps University admissions should be relaxed? If it’s too expensive, it’s a good investment.
Equipped with a tertiary education, there’ll be converging the right set of skills to be able to contribute to the body and to the members of the profession on the whole, and get rising confidence and respectability in academia as a body of standard and acquire a sense of breadth of the returns to the profession from its involvement. Taking people in merely on the basis of stiff universities entries and expensive tuition fees is not only discouraging and demotivating but might also be an excuse for ‘size’ protectionism and lose our competitive edge altogether.
If this leaves you worried, please rethink as a world class professional accounting body.
On the side, I’m willing to overlook the fairness that this puts the rest of us in the ‘old’ regime.

Music
But capacity is one-off. This is not celebrity ruins.
I was blocked for a few hours when a friend texted me.
On stage- There is a clear distance between you and the others .
I must admit I find you faintly strange but never cared much. Very confusing.
But hey, you are great.
If you could carry burdens.
Motown, Jackson 5, Ben and etc does not ring any bells.
Dirty Diana rings too many bells and brings back too many memories.
Like how Rajan and I performed ‘Beat It’ in Kindy.
Looks like it’s going to be a thriller anyway.
You could leave people in tears and heigh-ho .
This is impossible to ignore and impossible to not write.
You had mood. You had style.
Kareena, Angie and the little girl me:- Still remember how we were not allowed to go for concerts because of exams and mothers!!
I’m not writing about rest in peace, thanks for the memories, who's bad and etc…I’m writing about music.
Who am I talking about again?
Someone told me that NASA wasn’t responsible for the greatest moonwalk.
Who am I talking about again?
A dancing machine.
A lyrical gangster.
Come on
*Tense*
Say something .
It’s your turn.
This isn’t a worship shrine .
This is a ‘nobody else did that’ homage.
Dirty Diana Ahhhh….Dirty Dianaaa nahhhh

Preferential or equal treatment?
So Malaysia's government is planning to undo parts of its ancient policy of economic discrimination in favor of ethnic Malays (Bumiputeras 'sons of the soil') and native groups. Well so they say. This should be beneficial for the economy, making it easier for foreign firms to invest and function in the country. It also has a political basis, which is best if I don’t get into. If you still have racial quotas for everything….you’re still bloody racist goddammit. This surely narrows the economic gap between the majority Muslim Malay and the smaller Indian and Chinese communities, but it does not remove it altogether. In a broader sense, there should be no racial quotas and fair play. Reform!! Abolish!!This is what I get when I read the Star. I’m sticking to the Age.
I could go on. But I might get arrested.
Lets swing a little..
Happy birthday APPA!!! : ) you don’t look a day older than 45.
You people better be all over me and give me a great deal of attention when I come home.
This was just the dress rehearsal...i want pics of the big splash!!

28th annual report yo.
Faith as you like it.

Nalina at 28: Still unashamed and none the wiser….
You can learn a lot about the gods from my grandma (a natural dramatist) and the essence of her generation.
When I was younger, grandma told me that there’s only one god, which came in different forms. This is still my all time favourite. I stared at the Lord Ganesha statue next to my TV yesterday and was wondering why it is there? Does it have an effect on me? It does. Somehow. It is a way of life that sharpens you? I can pray anywhere. And there is a god. And everything else is what you belief. But what I cannot believe is....am 28. How life has changed :)
The fascinating part of all this is boo hoo....am 28.
Let’s change the tone a little shall we. Not as vivid as before ;)

Take note as the night steps forward, my good sense starts to weaken.I digress.

That’s just cake all over my face. How so very childish

Identification of what matters
The great question which I have not been able to answer, despite my 30 years of research into the feminine soul, is "what does a woman want"?
- Sigmund Freud
Do we actually know what we’re worth? We should. Recognise it.
In a relaxed conversation with a friend over coffee…she asked me, what happened to me? Why have I changed so much? Why have I mellowed down? Why is it ok to live alone? Why is it ok to be without any real family and friends? Why is it ok to be without a man? What kind of man are you looking for? Don’t you get lonely? Why did you turn down the 2 men I tried to set you up with?
Today, I pay my own bills, I make sure the house is spick and span at all times, all on my own. I have no qualms being the soldier of the home. Besides you know, and in a non-money oriented way, what else can a man do for me that I can’t do for myself?
I cannot put this in my own words…so I shall quote.
"I need something more. I need a man who is striving for perfection in every aspect of life. I am looking for someone who I can respect. In order to be submissive, I must respect him. I cannot be submissive to a man who isn't taking care of his business. I have no problem being submissive, he just has to be worthy. God made woman to be a help mate for man. I can't help a man if he can't help himself"

Why did you turn down the 2 men I tried to set you up with?
All these questions, over and over again by so many different people. Only because I’m young, single and maybe not too ugly. Please note, at 27, there is no such thing as arrogance in knowing what you want. I have lost the keenness to jump at opportunities as they come, to seize the moment even if it never comes again because I have the end in mind. I don’t truly believe in the twist of fate. And lust is just an illusion. Dancing with illusions is risky business. I might come across a tad bit cocky but after years of all sorts of association with men i know what I really want. If I don’t get it. That’s fine. If i do, i won't date them, I'll give myself away to that. So, let me elucidate.
I finally have answers. You don’t have to read between the lines…I’ll lay it out for you. I can explain. I cannot identify with simple men anymore. I don’t like men who just thread water. I need depth. I don’t want to just ‘settle’ because I don’t easily collapse. I need him to believe in the same things I believe in. It’s not about innocence and rawness in the man’s actions towards a lady in every way. It’s about his sense and intent. I want a man more than a boy. I want realism.

And that's all. And I applaud these men.
Then I told her, I reminded her….that it isn’t all about the outer shell, that electromagnetic pull or that gentleman aura..…other than….I don’t like sloppy and unfit men who cannot carry themselves well, only because you can do something about it.

Politics of the fragile mind: Sound and Fury
I'm back. *Insert Rambo theme song here*
Have you ever wondered if it is possible to get into the intricate mechanism of the human mind? To see what’s actually going on in there? I can’t figure it out. Sometimes I feel a certain way and the very next minute I feel something else. I’ll give you a few examples:-
1) I have a conversation with say person X, a total stranger and in the midst of the simple conversation I think this person is good and perfect and make images in my head about how good this person is. When in actual fact, I know nothing about this person. How do we know when a stranger is a good friend, very good friend, irksome monkeys (I know a few) or toxic?
2) There are only a few people whom I know will never wind me up. Sometimes I don’t know why I feel total dislike for people whom I call friends.
3) I may have a point after all. I decided to teach my mind to behave. Separation of powers: The mind and the freaking everyday practice. The most alarming feature the mind is that it sees bad as good and good as bad. Help me. The devil always fools us.
I just want to tell you, being a million miles away from everyone, I had a lot of time to feel and I only seem to initiate contact with people I actually like?! That’s it. I mean, come on, I don’t suck at keeping in touch. If I’m not keeping in touch, I don’t like you. Simple? Once again, if only I knew.
Now, I need some advice on forgiveness. I sometimes can see the good in some more than the bad and I believe there is hope in fixing them up, because deem down your inner instincts (which is very rarely ever wrong)..You know that this person is good and gone bad because he/she could not handle the pressing situation around coupled with wrong choices in life and whom you can call a total eff-up. I have done horrendous things to people before and I was given forgiveness…so, why can’t I forgive even if the damage is more than you can imagine?
Giddy hopes.
That gave way to a period of disappointment which you dwell and dwell and have patchy thoughts and make no progress of fixing it. But the more immediate question is how much disruption will be caused by the changing of minds? Once again, the devil is alive.
Michelle my person is supposed to call me yesterday!! Hsiao Phin I miss you very much you Baywatch Glenhuntly.
In sum…..take it easy.
Oh, and Happy Birthday Roddie!!

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Loud Humping Bunnies.
This is the second bizarre thing that has happened to me since I moved in to the Upper Esplanade (My apartment). Don’t know if I told you about the 1st one.
First occurrence
It was just about 7am I think when I was leaving the house for work. My idiot sister Dhis was here with me at that time. I took the lift down (I live on the first floor and reject the damn stairs sometimes because I’m a natural sloth). In the lift I saw artful blood stains on one side of the lift. I had visions of CSI Miami flashing immediately. But I brushed it off and went on…opening the front door…there was blood stains all over the handle and glass pieces all on the ground….I thought…that was it. I’m going a little late to work and I need to unravel this at once. I put on my Sherlock hat and with full CSI mode..I headed to the bushes and the dustbin area to look for a dead body as I was so sure somebody was murdered in my building. Then I needed a little help and I woke Dhis up.
Me: Dhishy Dhisy get up!!!
Dhis: Unsteady as usual. What do you want?!
Me: I need help.
Dhis: For what?
Me: Someone was murdered. I need you to help me find the body.
Dhis: What the F is wrong with you?
She just thinks someone had a fight.
….
Fine I'll take matters into my own hands. There was too much blood for it to be just a fight. There was too much blood at wrong places. I searched the bushes, I searched the car park…
No luck.
Should I call the cops?
No.
I went to work a very troubled person.
---------->>
Now coming to the point of this blog. Humping Bunnies.
My bedroom faces the carpark and I hear, let's just call them Mr and Mrs Ride Machine. I hear them quarrelling at least once a week…like this…" You shut up you useless whore, I throw you outta any timeeeee"…"You bitch I burn you in your sleep and have you for breakfast"…"emma cut your thing off and feed it to the dogs"….etc etc….along those lines.
But also…of late….I hear other sounds….
You remember how Meg Ryan fakes an orgasm at a café in the movie When Harry Met Sally?...Yes basically it was all rompitiromp rumble rumble for the past week……last night…my sleep was affected by high pitched shrills with long intervals followed by giddy giggles and sighs and borderline weeps and I GET THE POINT THAT IT WAS HOT AND HEAVY.….I couldn't hear much of him at all…I could hear her…Ok I get the point…..Poor dry me went to bed at 2am.
Pity Me.

Just add a little sense.
The giant girl speaks.
Only because of the constant pressure for my baloney, I'll blog for you.
I once read this quote...''The heart has reasons that reasons cannot know'' See being a big ass fan of psychology and philosophy...I inundate myself with knowledge of people. Their behavior and repercussions that follow. So to say, shamelessly, I'm an expert. No one say anything. See, the blocks of ‘trust’, decency, comfort, responsibility and etc built firmly into this thing called a familiarity, just to watch it stumble does a lot of things to the base. But, I can see clearly now, that familiarity is bullshit and looking after your emotional needs is vital. I stand for self-interest.
I have absolutely no clue of what I'm saying and we are only on the first para.
Oh let me tell you, I have high hopes on winning the Herald Sun marathon run in November. I’m well on track for that- Not jogged or ran for months and still asthmatic, eating rubbish(Sara Lee French cream cheesecake is a bitch)...how to do this? I’ll go figure. I shall get it under control and stir the Melbourne runners with my natural athletic talent. I have to mention, I nearly broke my skull doing a long jump in school (note that long jumps usually don't involve your head)....don’t picture this, but let’s concentrate on athletic talents and high spirits. I was told that I’d reach the finish line, when the organisers start packing up and taking banners down....now I’m raged...I shall show. I shall show that I’m capable of running marathons and not just inventing cocktails.
New in my world – I’ve got a new toy. Hand phone which I have been playing with for the past two nights without fail. Makes me sooooooo happy. Shit. I’ve got to get a life at some point. I was this close to giving it a name, like how I gave Betsy (my old car) hers. Ohhhh Betsy, love of my life. Now it looks damaged and frightened by the entire family back home. Betsy, mummy is coming in November.
I’m so tempted to write about how the financial crisis is hitting me, but I thought I'd tell you about the day Liverpool takes the Cup. You see many of you Redpissonyourselvesdevil fans out there. We are about 13 games away and am so scared of the outcome of having to come into office to face the wrath. Every day. So please god, be on Liverpool’s side.

Right around my heart.
First let me start by saying a very happy new year to all you wonderful people out there. Blog friends are real friends :) I told myself today as I was contemplating on writing something...that I’d put my snide and cynic remarks in the closet and say what I really want to say in a plain way. Low key. Less Melodrama. Not my kind of style.FYI
It’s 2/1/09 and...yesterday as I stood at my balcony which I hardly ever .. it sort of faces the beach and watching different people go by in cars, trams and it suddenly gets a little dark...sunset up in St Kilda is freaking awesome..and I get great sunset view, palm trees and all that jazz from my balcony...I know you must be thinking..that lucky bitch..but somehow I felt kind of empty...an empty feeling.
I usually don’t get this blankness right to you..but living alone, somehow I have the courage to say it..perhaps it has always been there. Who knew? People always put what you like to see. Isn’t that life? You usually get an annual report on my birthday..but I thought I’d write it post news years day...How I feel about all sorts of shit...marriage, friends who are married, friends in relationships, friends that dying to be in one, people that hold on to blind love and etc.
I’m no expert.
But I know my shit.
I look back at my past relationships, crushes, almost relationships, frantic hookups and etc...with which none of them turned out to be all moonlight and roses. A very unfairy tale.
And I blamed everything on men.
http://nalinakiru.blog.friendster.com/2006/06/men/
(I remember writing that drunk..I thought it might improve my judgment)
It’s always their fault, men are such bastards, why do they exist? Can’t they just die a slow painful death? All these thoughts always crossed my mind...but hey who are we kidding here..But..just but...here me out...it could be me..it’s just..could be me..
a)It could be me with the problem. As I do not know all the dating/relationships 101s.
b) Perhaps it was god’s freaking hands. Knowing that it’s not the one and knowing that I’ll always be blind and never learn...he turns the bottle to end things just so I could steer clear of all the Mr. Wrongs.
Wanna throw up yet?
Through all the Mr. Wrongs. Tiring in it? Like a rehearsal. But hey I made progress. I have been moving up the shit pile. Still there...still shit...but getting better..
But I wouldn’t change anything. My past is a write off. I accept. If I were to turn back time, I’ll leave everything just the way it is..it wouldn’t have made me the person I’m today. I had to go through all that. Karma? But I’ll probably go with the ’they were never that into me’ theory. Should I be angry? No. You have turned men down have you not? Even if they were eating into your hands with enthusiasm.
Being careful is bullshit. There is no such thing as being careful in my vocabulary. The moment you like a boy/girl...game over....it’s like you’re diving into the unknown all over gain...we’re all swimming in risky waters the whole journey through. But no risk no gain. If start to tell you about ALL my emotional experience..I’d be the longest blogger on earth...so it’s best if I share what good came out of it..
Let me side track...this paragraph is dedicated to my good friend Appleglow. Appleglow was in an emotional trap recently and couldn’t get out of it. I mean, we all go there time and again.Sometimes things work out like crap for the best...If he was into you...he would be with you today...he wasn’t...so NEXT...and someone told me, in an emo trap...best way to flee is to take one step back...you’re taking 3 steps forward...gradually 2 steps back..6 steps forward..keep going Appleglow. THIS WILL PASS. It’s no fun hunny...but sometimes you got to eat the fruits of life and just let it GO..whatever....the settling of scores and etc..let it go...and MOVE...keep moving, you’ll forget about him...dance, sing(which Appleglow has a problem with), do stuff...keep moving...live....it’s there...it’s all there...and it’s not hard..You’ll know...don’t you want that ’intoxicating, inconvenient, can’t live without each other kind of love? I quote SATC..Love is NOT science fiction. If you want to have flings/crushes..go AHEAD...but don’t expect anything...because once you expect..all you’ll ever get is a few weeks of nice dizziness and then stabbing disappointment(even if he kisses you the way Tom kissed Renne in Jerry Mcguire).....and we’re all be back to square one where valentine’s day is as good as a funeral day.
But be conscious that things can just flip. One day its sweet and the very next day (not giving you any time to prepare) it’s bitter. And men get it. They do. It’s sometimes women who are just time wasters.
It feels as if I’m getting to the crux...but not quite there yet..
Right now...it’s all calm waters...Tsunami will hit when I’m 30.
It’s too much hard work to sit down and ponder...just live ay?
